What to consider prior to your surgical consultation?

Congratulations on taking the initial first steps to a successful female cosmetic procedure. You have done most of the heavy lifting by identifying the appropriate physician for the job — “A Cosmetic Gynecologist!” So now what? I would recommend setting up at least 3 surgical consults whether virtual or in person and be ready to “interview” your potential surgeon. So often patients take the time to research a potential surgeon but will not take the extra time to see more than one physician. Think of it this way…If you were building a new house would you take the first bid or get a few bids and compare the pros and cons of each and make the best informed decision? The interview process should begin with the staff you encounter when setting up your in person or virtual visit. Do the staff seem knowledgeable? Are they courteous or do they seem busy and curt? This is so important because you will be interacting with the staff before, during, and after surgery. When Interviewing your physician ask yourself if s(he) is easy to communicate with? Do they understand your goals and your desires from both a functional and aesthetic perspective? Do they discuss your anatomy, reasonable expectations, anesthesia and immediate and long-term recovery in detail? Has all your questions been answered? If you are happy with the staff and you feel the interview went well, then you have done all you can do to find the best surgeon for the job!

Best of Luck,
