Q: When can I drive and return to work after labiaplasty?
A: It really depends on the type of labiaplasty that you have performed.If it is a linear labiaplasty, you can generally return back to work within five days and no driving for three days. If you have a wedge resection labiaplasty, which is has a more natural appearance but also needs a little bit more care and tenderness while taking care of it, I would ask that you not drive for five days and return to work in seven days.
Q: Are there activities I should avoid after labiaplasty?
A: The go-to position for labiaplasty recovery is on your couch, pillow under your buttocks, feet up, watching Netflix whether that is literally or figuratively.It may also be a time that you can catch up on reading or do some activities that you have not had the time to do.This does not mean that you are bedridden or home-bound but we do ask you to avoid anything that increases “rub-rub”, bending, and squatting so that that labiaplasty can heal nicely for you.
Q: Are there sutures to be removed after labiaplasty?
A: The short answer is no sutures need to be removed, they all dissolve!There are two layers of closure when performing a labiaplasty; the first layer is the deeper layer and the second layer is the skin layer. The skin layer generally will dissolve within 7 to 10 days.
Q:Should I use pads or can I use tampons with my periods after labiaplasty?
A: We generally recommend that you use pads, at least for the first menstrual cycle after your labiaplasty.Generally at that time it would be about four weeks, you usually have seen your surgeon and they will let you know if tampons are appropriate at that time.
Q: What is the best way to keep yourself clean after labiaplasty?
A: The best way to keep yourself clean is to use a peri-bottle.That peri-bottle should be with you any time that you use the restroom to keep yourself clean.We ask that you do not rub but pat to dry. We ask that you avoid toilet paper but use Preparation H/Tucks pads and to pat dry.
Q: Can I take a bath or swim after labiaplasty?
A: I recommend that you do not soak for at least 14 days.We just do not want those sutures to dissolve too quickly.
Q: When can I have sex after labiaplasty?
A: Short answer is six weeks after labiaplasty, but this is what I tell patients that first week when you are with your partner act like you do not know each other.Second week and on, anything above the waist is okay.by four weeks, self-pleasuring is fine and then by six weeks intercourse is appropriate.
Q: Is there chronic pain after having a labiaplasty?
A: In the hands of an experienced Cosmetic Gynecologist, the risk of chronic pain is very low.
Q: What are the danger signs to watch for after labiaplasty?
A :Danger signs to watch for after labiaplasty include:
- Fever, malodorous discharge from the vagina, and extreme tenderness.
- No improvement in pain as your recovery progresses.
- bleeding with possibility of hematoma formation.
